Northwest Writing Workshops are comprehensive, eight-to-twelve-month programs designed to help you write that book you’ve been wanting to write.

You’ll attend three two-day weekend workshops normally held about three to four months apart. (You’ll have a choice of various weekend workshops to attend so that you can select the most convenient for you.) You’ll even be able to skip one round of workshops (Jan–Apr, May–Aug, Sept–Dec) in order to attend during the next round. This is a great option if you think you’re going to need a few extra months to work on your book.

The first round of workshops in 2022 will take place in a variety of cities in Washington State between January and April. Workshops will run Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. in:

Bellingham, WA   Jan 8, 9

Seattle, WA    Jan 22, 23

Vancouver, WA    Feb 5, 6

Spokane, WA    Feb 19, 20

Tacoma, WA    Mar 5, 6

Tri-Cities, WA    Mar 19, 20

Olympia, WA    Apr 2, 3

Bellevue, WA    Apr 9, 10

workshop 1

During the first round of workshops you’ll focus on:

– Introductions (Getting to know other writers and letting them get to know about you)

– Ideas (You’ll discuss the book you’d like to write. Even if your idea is vague, bring it. We’ll be sharing ideas, offering suggestions, and helping one another put together a game plan that’s going to work.)

– The game plan

(This is the heart of our first-workshop objective. By the time you leave on Sunday, you’ll have a plan that’s going to work for you. Your book idea will be boiled down to a preliminary synopsis, and we’ll do some sketching out and week-by-week planning that will help drive your writing efforts prior to your second weekend of workshops … normally, three to four months later, in the same location.)

Between workshops, you’ll have a plan to follow as you work on your rough draft. You’ll also have:

– Access to the instructor via phone/Skype/email

– Membership in a writers’ group and access to monthly mini-workshops via videoconferencing. (This is key. You’ll have contact with other writers who can offer suggestions, critiques, and support.)

workshop 2

Workshop #2 (normally, about four months into the program) will focus on helping you toward completion of your rough draft—or, if you’re already there, working on a revision and editing plan. You’ll also learn the importance of a first-rate query and synopsis, and you’ll start learning about options for submitting your manuscript to publishers or agents.

By the time you finish Workshop #3 (eight to twelve months after your first round of workshops), you can expect to have a finished manuscript in hand … and that’s quite an accomplishment. You can also expect to have a plan for polishing your manuscript and, if you so choose, submitting it to publishers or agents. It’s a competitive game, but you’ll be a player … and you never know what might happen.

The cost of this comprehensive eight-to-twelve-month program (or longer) is an all-inclusive $725. A discount of $75 is available to those who register and whose payment is received at least 15 days prior to the first-round weekend workshop they choose to attend.
